Adam Platt
Hi, I'm Adam Platt, Blow Fill Seal Operations Manager from Teva Runcorn
“I really do wake up every morning feeling proud to be part of it.”
My job is to manage the whole process of manufacturing a new product that Teva launched this year. It also happens to be one of the most complex medications to be made on site and I’m responsible for the process of taking it from the raw ingredients to its production and packing in a sterile environment, and getting it palleted ready for delivery to patients around the world.
As well as having a full understanding of every step of the process and making sure that everything’s in place for this to work smoothly and efficiently, the job entails spending a lot of time in forward planning, priority setting and problem solving. I’ve been in the manager role for three months; before that I was working as a team leader in BFS for three and a half years. When I left University after my Forensic Science degree seven years ago I didn’t think I’d already be in such a responsible position and I’m very proud of that.
Before Teva, I’d worked at another pharmaceutical company, but their range of medicines was limited and only available in the UK. I had heard a lot of great things about Teva and was really excited at the prospect of working for a leading generics company and helping patients get access to more affordable medications in countries all over the world.
I know I made the right decision in joining Teva. The shared sense of achievement you get when we achieve our goals is massive.
My career highlight so far was watching the first batch of the new product come off the line, after several years of hard work by so many teams. That was a fantastic moment and I felt incredibly proud to be part of it.
I’d say one of our key strengths as a business is how everyone appreciates and understands the importance of their role in the delivery of our mission – to be a global leader in generics and biopharmaceuticals which improve the lives of patients – and is valued for it.
Of course, not every day goes to plan. But, what I’ve found here is that we all pull together and are determined to put things right because we all believe in that mission. At every level you are entrusted to make decisions and we all have a sense of accountability for our actions.
I couldn’t have found a better place to develop my career
Teva actively supports you in achieving your personal goals and there are loads of opportunities for personal development and promotion. I’ve been following a clear STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering and Maths) career pathway and have achieved ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) Level 3 qualification since I started, and Teva arranges for the trainers to come to us on site. You’re really encouraged here to go for promotions too – and there always seems to be new roles coming up as we expand.
Although we all work hard here, I have a great work/life balance. The shift patterns work well for me and give me plenty of time to play cricket and golf in the summer and have a good social life in the winter! It’s perfect for me now and my colleagues with children find the childcare support very helpful so will be good in the future too.
We have a great rewards scheme as well but, to be honest, while these things are much appreciated, I think people here are very self-motivated. It’s a really rewarding place to work in other ways – everyone takes a big sense of pride in what they do and in what we’re achieving together. I really do wake up every morning feeling proud to be part of it.
